In Conclusion to Type Comparisons

All of these examples, Hadrian’s Wall, Charlemagne, Trajan’s Column, the Parthenon and so on, all were building blocks to create the most recent array of typefaces we are familiar with currently. Black letter style text seemed to have withstood the test of time since the 11th century because of its balance of function and form. The hand-carved text from Trajan’s column was probably the largest influence because it influenced the hand written text from its creation onward. It influenced contemporary fonts still in use frequently today like Trajan Pro and Times New Roman (both appropriately named). So what does this mean to you and everyone else? Well of you have looked around at anything lately you will see words, text, fonts, staring at you to communicate a message. Sometimes they are screaming messages, trying to make you mesmerized by its graceful swashes, or maybe the fonts are trying to seduce you to buy their product. Whatever the case may be, typefaces and letterforms have a purpose and always have. Letters make up words; words communicate the messages sometimes faster than images can. With the age of literacy, printing, an increase in technology, the introduction of design, it has all created a giant world of expression through type better known as typography.
